Voters of the Monadnock Regional School District have passed a new teachers contract, according to Superintendent Kenneth R. Dassau.
Residents of Fitzwilliam, Gilsum, Richmond, Roxbury, Sullivan, Surry and Troy approved the new teachers contract by a margin of 1,964 to 1,315.
Tuesday’s vote on the contract represented a special election, granted by Cheshire County Superior Court judge, who ruled that low morale and wages that were frozen without a contract constituted the “emergency” situation required by law to hold an election before the annual meeting in March.

Note: This contract (which was NOT an emergency) had already been rejected 4 times in the past. Typically special elections do not result in high voter turnout and the MRSD counted on that to win.
