WMUR reports:
NORTHWOOD, N.H. — Dozens turned out Tuesday night for a Northwood school board meeting, as the former school superintendent was allowed to have an appeal hearing.
Judy McGann went before the school board that fired her to appeal the board’s decision.
The joint school board is made up of members of the Northwood, Nottingham and Strafford School Boards.
The board’s attorney said McGann was terminated for giving out overtime pay and stipends, or bonuses, that were not authorized by the board.
The attorney said over the past three years a half dozen people received the unauthorized pay – about $50,000 worth from grant money. He said the money came from one or two accounts believed to be “inappropriate”.
But the former school superintendent says it’s a budget mix-up because of different accounting software in different school districts.
Audit results are not yet complete. The school board must still decide whether or not to uphold its firing of McGann.
