MEREDITH — Town taxpayers will see an increase in their tax bills this year as the town’s tax rate has been set.

The 2008 tax rate has been certified by the New Hampshire Department of Revenue at $11.46 per $1,000 of assessed value. This is an increase of 55 cents per $1,000 from the 2007 tax rate.

The town portion of the tax rate for 2008 is $3.97 from last year’s $3.70. This year’s local school portion is $4.02, an increase from last year’s $3.86 as the state portion is $2.17 while it was $2.15 in 2007.

The county portion increased from last year’s $1.20 to $1.30 this year.

Tax bills will be issued shortly with a due date of Dec. 29. Anyone wishing to contest their assessments can request a review by filing an abatement application with the Assessing Department before March 1.

The total assessed valuation of the town rose from $1.918 billion to $2.151 billion. Previous tax rates can be viewed on the town website at www.meredithnh.org.
