A longtime town clerk in New Hampshire is at the center of a financial scandal.

An auditor hired by the town of Piermont says town clerk and tax collector Linda Lambert mishandled tax money. It also found she broke several state laws, and suggested she should be fired.

The audit did not say how much money is in question.

Lambert, who has been the town clerk in Piermont for 23 years, denies the allegations, and says she has the documentation to backup her transactions.

The select board is now considering its options.
