BARRINGTON — The formal resignation of Charter Weeks from the Board of Selectmen touched off a lengthy debate among residents about the direction of the town at Monday night’s meeting.
Before a capacity crowd at the Public Safety building, Weeks blasted the Barrington Taxpayers Association in a prepared statement, calling them “anti-government zealots” for their “Draconian measures” that he believes have held the town back.
At the March 8 town elections, voters re-elected Weeks but voted down most spending measures on the town warrant, including the town and school budgets and a $3.74 million renovation to the town hall. Weeks has stated he felt these measures were voted down because of the BTA’s influence.
