If you have been following the strange case of the Milton 16 you know that the residents of Utah Way were about to have the only access point to their homes chained off. This was a result of a railroad company disputing the ownership of this and other streets that were crossed by their tracks. The railroad company was demanding insurance money for the privilege of crossing their tracks and neither they nor the town would take responsibility for the roads or the construction and maintenance of crossing gates and flashing lights that should be there instead.

The most imminent problem was that suddenly, after being a de facto town road, residents of Utah way found themselves unplowed this past winter, a potentially dangerous situation. And if they did not buy insurance, it was threatened that the road would be chained off.

After discovering that this road and several others were never properly accepted by the town, CNHT’s efforts to uncover the process has resulted in getting the town to do this at their next meeting.

We will report back after the spring meeting on the success of the acceptance of the roads.
