After an attempt by one party in Jaffrey to stop Jean Coutu’s Annual NH Live Free or Die Rally by the use of zoning ordinances, Coutu has been cleared to go on.

The event is being held on private property — The Grand View Inn & Resort owned by Scott Mitchell who donated the venue — on the weekend of Aug. 21, 22 and 23. This is a commercial property that is suited to large crowds and can accommodate parking needs.

The ACLU’s opinion was that this site-plan review for a political gathering was a violation of freedom of speech and that the zoning ordinances of the town did not apply.
